Designed this part to have a little more cosmetic appeal than the prior simple version. Designed this part in 4 hours from scratch to replace/improve the prior part. Included was all the mathematics, tolerances, stress and vibration analysis. Since the part was only to be 3D printed, certain design issues that would have prevented CNC machining were overlooked.
Later generations were more boring as they needed to be CNC machined, but this one impressed anyone that saw it.
4 hours to design, 20 hours to print. Printed on my home 3D Systems Cube Pro.
Needed to design a flexible test rig for materials performance testing. The prior versions were not flexible enough for testing. Requiring a new layout every time a new test profile was developed for the material. Tolerances needed to very tight on the material so the design could not be too flexible. Plus we had to deal with he known limitations and tolerances of the PLA and ABS materials we were using.
Here is the test rig in action. Was solely responsible for this entire testing project, with only very minor help and no outside directional help. From designing the test, to procuring test equipment, to designing custom components, software and test methods/formulas. Over the span of 30 days during the holidays, I worked night and day, running the 3D printer almost nonstop to refine the testing methods and procedures.
The end results were very successful in proving a theory of the new material we were testing for the particular use.
